Fast food giant, KFC, has been saying their chickens are “finger lickin good” since 1956. However for a long time, their social media channels have been flooded with complaints of undersized chicken. Champions are not perfect too.

Despite some complaints, we were told by KFC that they have been receiving many compliments for the quality of their iconic fried chicken recently.

Thanks to their new Quality Taste Guaranteed Policy, these sorts of comments are getting lesser, and what is Quality Taste Guaranteed? Read on to find out.

KFC’s Commitment To Provide Uncompromising Quality of Food & Customer Experience

Continuous improvement is an ongoing effort to improve all elements of every company, same goes to KFC.

KFC wants to ensure every fried chicken lover is satisfied hence they’ve launched Quality Taste Guaranteed policy back in May 2022 which allows customers to scan a QR code to replace any unsatisfactory piece of chicken through an online form.

KFC Malaysia Brand Head Stephen Chew (2nd left) and chief marketing officer Chan May Ling (2nd right) unveiled the Finger-Lickin’ Good Campaign in KFC Pavilion KL back in May 2022.

Unhappy With Your Chicken? Get A Replacement Without Conditions

To ensure all fried chicken lovers are able to enjoy the freshest and top notch fried chicken, the

“Quality Taste Guaranteed” policy allows you to request a replacement if the chicken you’re served is not up to par.  This includes if your chicken is not juicy enough, burnt, too greasy, not tender, not hot, and not as flavourful.

To those who are unsatisfied with KFC’s Fried Chicken, all you gotta do is scan the QR code on the table , fill and submit the replacement form. Once you’re done, flash the “Thank You” page at the counter to replace your fried chicken. No questions asked.

Here’s the Secret That Makes KFC’s Fried Chicken So Crispy

Using the “farm to fork” strategy, KFC ensures their fried chicken comes from a steady supply Halal-compliant and high quality ingredients.  All their chicken pieces are delivered into KFC stores throughout the week and are freshly breaded and fried by trained staff everyday.

Singaporean owned Korean Fried Chicken brand 4FINGERS has a new menu and it’s called Firecracker Chicken.

This is a new unique take on the 4FINGERS’ famed soy garlic signature crispy chicken, and it is something special.

Topped with Szechuan peppercorn, black pepper, chilli oil, white sesame oil, and cumin, 4FINGERS’ Firecracker Chicken has spicy and numbing flavours sensation to it.

“I dare say that the spice level of these wings are one of the strongest across crispy chicken brands in Malaysia, and I’m excited to see Malaysians try it for themselves, said Singaporean celebrity chef Bjorn Shen.

The Firecracker chicken will be available as 4FINGERS’ signature wingettes, drummettes, and drumsticks, starting from RM15 for à la carte items and RM19.70 for meal bundles.

Spicy food lovers can opt for an entire meal consisting of only Firecracker chicken, and those who are less confident they can handle the burst of heat can go for two chicken flavours – including 4FINGERS’ signature Soy Garlic or Hot Sauce – in one meal.

SS15 in Subang Jaya is filled to the brim with all sorts of restaurants which mainly caters to the students around that area. Among all, Lim Fried Chicken is considered to be one of the most popular restaurants.

As the name suggest, Lim Fried Chicken stands out for their famous fried chicken served in a Chinese “Nasi Kandar” style.

Do not mistake this as “economy rice” as there are no dishes placed in a row. You need to order from the menu where prices and pictures of food are displayed. The quality of the fried chicken is much higher compared to what you’ll find in economy rice stalls.

As usual, we went for the best seller – Rice + L.F.C Drumstick + Veggie (RM10.80).

The fried chicken was served hot and it was freaking huge. The skin part was crispy and the flesh was tender and juicy. The skin was tad salty which was perfectly complimented by the sweet sambal on the side.

The combination of Chinese curry, sambal and crispy fried chicken certainly made up for interesting flavours. No doubt the fried chicken was the star of this dish. The curries and sambal by itself were slightly below average. But when added the chicken, it gives the dish that extra “oomph”.

Verdict

Lim Fried Chicken can be a hit or miss as they cater to specific taste buds. If you are not a fan of fried chicken or sweet sambal you may not like this dish. Although the fried chicken was quite big prices are still considered expensive. We believe not many would be willing to pay RM10.80 for fried chicken, rice and veggie.

If you frequently visit SS15 area in Subang Jaya, you’d probably come across Nomms. This fried chicken joint opened about 2 years ago and aims to serve the best fried chicken in town. Being regular diners of Nomms, we personally felt this eatery is highly underrated and deserves your attention, especially if you’re a fan of fried chicken.

The outlet gives out a minimal and laidback vibe with its black metal chairs, wooden tables, cemented floors, paintings and witty notes left by diners.

A brief chat with the head chef revealed that Nomms cooks their fried chickens in closed pressure fryer in order to maintain moisture and flavours of the chicken. The eatery also takes freshness of chicken very seriously as they never use frozen chicken.

We started off our lunch with 3 Pieces of Fried Chicken (RM16). The sizes of the chicken pieces were quite decent, especially considering the price. Like any tasty fried chicken, the flavours are concentrated at the skin part.

The chickens were quite soft and juicy when eaten hot. The fragrant and flavours from the skin was quite tasty as well. We felt everything tasted “real” as opposed to artificial flavours which can be found in most fast food chains.

Burgers are always a must for us hence we also tried the Fried Chicken Burger (RM17). It’s stacked with a thick chicken patty and lettuce. The chicken patty is addictively crunchy which compliments the soft buns well.

The portion size of the burger is satisfying, we especially loved that patty to bun ratio. Simply put, the Fried Chicken Burger at Nomms is the BOMB.

If you’re looking for a healthier alternative, you can opt for the Wrap (RM16). This dish was filled with boneless fried chicken pieces, lettuce and other veggies topped with their signature sauce. We found this to be filling and flavourful, the crunchiness from the lettuce and flavours from the sauces and fried chicken made this an enjoyable dish.

Aside from serving fresh chickens at an affordable price, what made Nomms truly stand out from other fried chicken restaurants is their wide array of unique sauces. For the Fried Chicken Burger, you may choose either Original or Spicy Nomms Sauce. For the Fried Chicken you’ll have 1 extra option which is the FOTM (Flavours Of The Month) sauce.

We sampled the Orignal Nomms Sauce and it was freaking delicious.

We were informed that Nomms offers a special flavour of the month for their Burgers and January’s speciality is Tom Yam flavoured Burger. Being fanatics of Burgers and Tom Yam, we can’t resist without sampling it.

While the Tom Yam Burger looks exactly as the regular Chicken Burger the flavours are quite distinctive. The infusion is certainly something interesting, however try not to put too many sauce as it can over shadow the Tom Yam flavours. Furthermore, the strong Thai infused flavours from the Tom Yam burger is already flavourful enough even without the sauces.

Verdict

To say Nomms serves quality fried chicken at an affordable price would be pretty accurate. Taste-wise it doesn’t disappoint either. This restaurant is perfect for those who are looking for a tastier alternative to the usual staple fast food eateries.

If you’re planning to dine at Nomms, do note that parking can be a major issue, so be prepared to walk.

Prices of food is consistently increasing every year, hence people always on the hunt for inexpensive yet tasty eateries. Living in the Klang Valley where a standard lunch cost at least RM7 per pax, it’s a real gem to find out about Anuar Kari Kepala Ikan.

This eatery is situated at Pusat Penjaja Taman Lucky and sells a plate of Nasi Ayam Goreng at only RM3. A plate of Nasi Ayam Goreng comprises a piece of fried chicken, fish curry sauce, okra, and bean sprouts.

Other food options are also sold at an affordable price. For example:

Rice + Fried Chicken + Vegetable = RM3
Rice + Fried Fish + Vegetable = RM3
Rice + Fried Chicken + Fried Fish + Vegetable = RM6
Rice + Sotong Goreng + Vegetable + Chicken / Fried Fish = RM10

The Sotong Goreng is highly recommended, which is a tender, fresh and tasty dish to consume as it adds extra flavours to the rice. You can opt for only white rice and Sotong Goreng as it cost RM7.

As you can tell from the picture, the size of the Sotong Goreng is pretty big and satisfying especially for the price of RM7. On top of that, as the restaurant’s name suggest, Anuar Kari Kepala Ikan is renowned for their fish curry which comes with spicy gravy and fresh fish. The Fish Head Curry here is a MUST TRY!

When it comes to fried chicken, it’s safe to say Malaysians are big fans of this irresistible dish. Fried chicken can be found almost everywhere, from street vendors to commercialize restaurants and even 5-star hotels. Due to the ever-growing popularity of this dish, FriedChillies.com organized Malaysia’s 1st Fried Chicken Festival dubbed Ayam Lejen 2017 on November 18 and 19, 2017.

We were invited to attend the Ayam Lejen Fried Chicken Festival and here’s what went down.

Standard tickets are sold at RM58 and with each ticket you’ll receive complimentary fried chicken from 8 vendors including myBurgerlab, Zainul Nasi Kandar, Nomms, KGB, Broasted Chicken King, Gerai Ah Kow, Nasi Lemak Khora Khora and Sweetree.

Aside from myBurgerlab and Nomms, we’ve not tried any of the listed eateries. Hence we were excited to taste these some of the so-called best fried chicken vendors in KL and the Klang Valley.

We started our Ayam Lejen journey with Nomms fried chicken. While the portion size was slightly smaller than most vendors here, the Mexicana popcorn chicken, remained crunchy yet soft in the middle. Overall the snack was well marinated and flavourful.

myBurgerlab’s highly popular Ultraman burger was alright. The chicken patty was thick and crispy, and the charcoal buns were nice and soft. We also felt the salted egg flavour could have been bolder.

The chicken at Zainul Nasi Kandar was not bad. The fried batter bits add a good crunchy texture to the rice. The curry gravy was fragrant and flavourful, a little overpowering to the fried chicken but definitely gave the “oomph” factor to the dish.

Sweetree’s fried chicken was insanely good. It almost tasted like the Chinese style sweet and sour chicken, except not overly sweet, but tangy and full of flavours instead. We just couldn’t get enough of Sweetree’s fried chicken.

Unlike most vendors here, Broasted Chicken King uses a unique BIG ASS Pressure Fryer and their fried chickens are massive. Taste-wise, like any fried chicken, the flavours are concentrated at the crispy golden skin. The skin was crunchy and flesh was juicy, besides that it was pretty normal tasting.

By this point we ate too many fried chicken and was slowly getting full and desensitized towards the flavours.

Nasi Lemak Khora Khora was average and needed the sambal to enhance the flavours of the crispy chicken. It would have been better if a small plate of Nasi Lemak was served along with the fried chicken because their sambal was tasty.

KGB’s Crispy Fried Chicken was our second favourite fried chicken in this festival. The fried chicken wing was coated with salted egg yok and has a slightly spicy flavour to it. The jalapeno was a good touch to the dish as it was strong and enhance the overall dish.

Gerai Ah Kow was the last stop to our fried chicken adventure at. To our surprise, the dish came with rice. We were so bloated we just couldn’t eat another bite, hence we just sampled the fried chicken. We were told that the chicken was marinated with Horlicks, normally we only taste Horlicks in prawn dishes, hence this was a creative twist.

There was a spicy fried chicken eating competition.

Our only complaints for the Ayam Lejen Fried Chicken Festival is the lack of chairs and tables as we were standing all the way while eating. On top of that, there were no proper place set up for us to wash our hands.

So here comes the golden question: Was the Ayam Lejen Festival worth the price of RM58? To be frank it wouldn’t be fair for us to answer as we were invited to experience the festive without having to pay for it. Nevertheless, if you factor in the amount of food we ate from 8 vendors plus free drinks and t-shirts (if you download the Boost app), and a goodie bag we must say the price is pretty decent.

All in all, it was a great experience having to sample 8 different fried chickens without having to drive all over the town.  Many thanks to FriedChillies.com for having us.
