Korean food lovers in Subang Jaya have many reasons to rejoice this month. There’s a brand new Korean restaurant called Daseo that recently opened in SS15, Subang Jaya. Interestingly, this Korean eatery is also Pork-Free.

Daseo’s menu is kept simple, 2 page affair that feature Korean staple fair and an easy-to-navigate list of a la carte dishes, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. While the signature dishes here are Korean Fried Chicken and Army Stew, the cheese is probably the most attractive part about Daseo as most dishes is accompanied by a good amount of it.

The ordering process for Shimson Stew and Army Stew is simple, first choose your preferred dish with toppings. Next choose your desired Soup Base and Choice of Noodle.

Soup Base
1. Chicken Soup Base
2. Classic Army Stew Soup Base
3. Spicy Army Stew Soup Base

Noodle
1. Ramyeon
2. Handmade Noodle
3. Korean Glass Noodle
4. Udon

The Shimson Stew – Classic Army Stew @ RM48.90 (with Chicken Soup Base) comes with Korean Fried Chicken, Toppokki and melted cheese on the side. Considering the size and amount of ingredients we were served, this dish could easily feed up to 3 people.

The stew was light and mildly spicy but still quite flavourful. However the best part was the fried chicken which was rather sweet and only mildly spicy paired with savoury cheese. The Toppokki was also nice with the right amount of chewiness, one of the better ones we’ve tasted thus far.

Their fried chicken and cheese was so good we had to try the Korean Cheese Fried Chicken @ RM29.90. We were satisfied with portion size and freshness of both the fried chicken and cheese. It should be more than sufficient to feed 2 ladies.

Army Stews without cheese ring and toppings are also available for die-hard soup lovers. The Prawn Army Stew @ RM49.90 includes 4 servings of large prawns, enoki mushrooms, a slice of cheese, 3 soft tofus and various vegetables.

The Clam Army Stew @ RM49.90 comes with the same ingredients except with generous amount of clams instead. Just like the Shimson Stew, you get to choose the soup base and noodle of your likings.

Just like any steamboat restaurant, add-on dishes are available and priced anywhere from RM1 to RM20 depending on what you order.

If you are dining alone and looking for something more simple and wallet-friendly, the Dosirak (Korean Shake Shake Lunch Box) @ RM17.90 would be an option. It comes with a bed of Korean rice topped with Kimchi, Seaweed, Sausages and sunny side egg.

To enjoy this dish at its best, you got to mix it all up by shaking the entire lunch box (with its led on top) super aggressively. That way you get the flavours from all ingredients in one bite.

Based on our experience, we can conclude that the food at Daseo will not disappoint. Food choices are limited but sufficient. More importantly, they are pork free and sensibly priced for a Korean restaurant. If you live around Subang Jaya area and looking for a new Korean restaurant to visit, Daseo would be a good option.

If you are looking for a good and satisfying Ramly Burger around Subang Jaya, D’New Burger is the burger truck you should check out. It is quite hard to miss as the food truck located directly in front of TK Bakery in the heart of SS15, Subang Jaya.

Among the many Ramly Burger stalls in town, D’New Burger is inarguably the most popular because of their unconventional offering of grilled burgers. Many Subangites highly recommend this supper spot hence it was one of the burgers we’ve been dying to try.

D’New Burger’s proprietor use patties which are significantly thicker for their grilled burgers, instead of the usual Ramly Burger patties. Grilling over a BBQ pit also takes more time hence be prepared to wait anywhere from 10 – 15 minutes.

The Jumbo Grilled Chicken Burger with Egg (RM9.80) came with grilled patty soaked in mushroom sauce, a slice of cheese, an egg, and onions and drenched in BBQ, chilli and cheesy sauce. We notice the patty was not wrapped in the fried egg. Instead, it is just topped as a layer in the burger.

They were very generous with their sauces, hence if you love saucy and sloppy burgers, this is probably for you. The sauces were super overwhelming and it would be impossible for us not to make a huge mess when getting the first bite.

Taste wise, all we can say is it is a Ramly Burger done right. There is nothing to complaint about, even the hefty price is justified with the size of the burger.

Aside from its unique approach to grilled burgers, D’New Burger also offers various unorthodox dishes in the menu such as Pita Burger, Cheezy Wedges, Fish Ball, Chicken Nugget and more.

If you frequently visit SS15 area in Subang Jaya, you’d probably come across Nomms. This fried chicken joint opened about 2 years ago and aims to serve the best fried chicken in town. Being regular diners of Nomms, we personally felt this eatery is highly underrated and deserves your attention, especially if you’re a fan of fried chicken.

The outlet gives out a minimal and laidback vibe with its black metal chairs, wooden tables, cemented floors, paintings and witty notes left by diners.

A brief chat with the head chef revealed that Nomms cooks their fried chickens in closed pressure fryer in order to maintain moisture and flavours of the chicken. The eatery also takes freshness of chicken very seriously as they never use frozen chicken.

We started off our lunch with 3 Pieces of Fried Chicken (RM16). The sizes of the chicken pieces were quite decent, especially considering the price. Like any tasty fried chicken, the flavours are concentrated at the skin part.

The chickens were quite soft and juicy when eaten hot. The fragrant and flavours from the skin was quite tasty as well. We felt everything tasted “real” as opposed to artificial flavours which can be found in most fast food chains.

Burgers are always a must for us hence we also tried the Fried Chicken Burger (RM17). It’s stacked with a thick chicken patty and lettuce. The chicken patty is addictively crunchy which compliments the soft buns well.

The portion size of the burger is satisfying, we especially loved that patty to bun ratio. Simply put, the Fried Chicken Burger at Nomms is the BOMB.

If you’re looking for a healthier alternative, you can opt for the Wrap (RM16). This dish was filled with boneless fried chicken pieces, lettuce and other veggies topped with their signature sauce. We found this to be filling and flavourful, the crunchiness from the lettuce and flavours from the sauces and fried chicken made this an enjoyable dish.

Aside from serving fresh chickens at an affordable price, what made Nomms truly stand out from other fried chicken restaurants is their wide array of unique sauces. For the Fried Chicken Burger, you may choose either Original or Spicy Nomms Sauce. For the Fried Chicken you’ll have 1 extra option which is the FOTM (Flavours Of The Month) sauce.

We sampled the Orignal Nomms Sauce and it was freaking delicious.

We were informed that Nomms offers a special flavour of the month for their Burgers and January’s speciality is Tom Yam flavoured Burger. Being fanatics of Burgers and Tom Yam, we can’t resist without sampling it.

While the Tom Yam Burger looks exactly as the regular Chicken Burger the flavours are quite distinctive. The infusion is certainly something interesting, however try not to put too many sauce as it can over shadow the Tom Yam flavours. Furthermore, the strong Thai infused flavours from the Tom Yam burger is already flavourful enough even without the sauces.

Verdict

To say Nomms serves quality fried chicken at an affordable price would be pretty accurate. Taste-wise it doesn’t disappoint either. This restaurant is perfect for those who are looking for a tastier alternative to the usual staple fast food eateries.

If you’re planning to dine at Nomms, do note that parking can be a major issue, so be prepared to walk.

Meet Mee Noodles Café is probably the coolest traditional pan mee restaurant in the Klang Valley. This charming eatery exudes a laid back ambiance through its dark plastic chairs, wooden tables and welcoming decors.  Aside from serving pan mee, Meet Mee also incorporates cakes, coffees and an array of unconventional beverages.

We started off with the signature Chili Pan Mee (RM8.20). The dish looked promising and tasted delicious. The handmade wheat noodles were perfectly cooked and the addition of fried fish cakes adds many interesting textures to the dish. Surprisingly, this dish was not overly spicy which gave room for more flavours on our palate.

If you have really low heat tolerant you may opt for the Mushroom & Pork Pan Mee (RM8.20).  It is not spicy yet bursting with rich mushroom flavours. The mushroom fillings were pretty generous as every bite we took came with at least one slice of mushroom.

Meet Mee recently introduced two interesting dishes – Lala Pan Mee (RM13.90) and Tom Yam Pan Mee (RM17.90). We were fortunate enough to sample both.

Lala Pan Mee is served with handmade noodles in ginger and wine broth, topped with generous amounts of lala. Although the broth appears light and clear, the ginger flavours were quite strong and the combination of fresh Japanese Lalas and smooth noodles managed to satisfy our heavy taste buds.

Simply put, Tom Yam Seafood Pan Mee is a MUST TRY dish when you are in Subang Jaya. The infusion of Thai and Chinese flavours was creative and absolutely fantastic. The tom yam broth compliments the handmade noodles well, the prawns, lalas and mussels was incredibly fresh. We loved that Meet Mee were generous with their seafood, the prawns in particular was quite big and satisfying.

What stood out Meet Mee from the rest is their wide selection of chilli – Indo, Sambal, Signature, Ginger and Green.

Traditional Fried Dumpling (RM6.20)

Fried Pork Wantan (RM4.80)

There is nothing much to shout about as dumplings and wantan always make great snacks in pan mee restaurants.

As mentioned above, Meet Mee also offers a plethora of café-like delicacies ranging from cakes, coffee, tea and many interesting drinks.

We had a number of these interesting drinks – Rose + Jasmine (RM12.90), Carrot (RM5.20), Lycheelicious (RM8.20) and Jasmine Green Tea (RM3.80). While all drinks were decent, the Lycheelicious in particular stood out! The lychee fruits were fresh and the drink was pretty enjoyable.

For those with a sweet tooth, you might be interested with Meet Mee’s cakes offering –  Chocolate Peanut Butter Mille Crepe (RM12) and Japanese Cheese (RM9), paired with a good cup of Latte (RM7).

Verdict

Our dining experience at Meet Mee was indeed pleasant. The food was great and the ambiance is welcoming. It’s certainly not your average pan mee restaurant as there are many café-like elements implemented. From the interesting drinks to cakes and coffee, Meet Mee has something for almost everyone.
