Subang Jaya is mostly known for its plethora of colleges but there is also plenty of delicious eateries around for you to choose from. Aside from the popular ones, such as Rojak & Cendol in SS15 and Bak Kut Teh in SS14, there are many under-the-radar stalls and restaurants.

If you’re craving for the Original Penang Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng, this place offers a decent alternative. This is a branch of the popular Penang Bangkok Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng and it’s helmed by 2nd generation owner named Ameen. There’s also another one in USJ 2, which is operated by Ameen son, which is as equally delicious as this one.

2. Seventythirty.kl (SS17)

Situated at SS17 in front of a petrol station, Seventythirty.kl serves more than 10 types of burgers ranging from beef and chicken to fish. Barely a year old, they are one of the most popular burger stalls in town. The burgers hits all the right spots with its American influenced smashed burgers. The most popular order is their Say Cheese!. It’s made with a house blend Australian beef patty, melted mozzarella and cheddar cheese, tomato, pickles and home-made burger sauce.

3. Pau, Wai Kwan Coffee Shop (USJ 6)

You might not find anything special about this coffeeshop at first glance. But this place houses a super crowded homemade Pau stall. Everything is made on-the-spot from scratch, from rolling the dough to steaming. The popular Paus fillings are their Char Siew, Mui Choy and Nam Yu Pork. Unique flavours include Kung Po Chicken and Chicken Curry.

4. Liza Briyani (SS15)

Liza Biryani is one of the longest queue humble stall in Subang. Liza, or simply known as Kak Liza, operates her biryani stall at the her car porch with her husband and children. For price of RM9, you get a big portion of chicken and biryani rice. It’s also worth mentioning that Kak Liza sells Pakistani style Biryani rice, hence it’s not drenched with gravies.

5. Jing Zhu Pan Mee (SS19)

Ask any Subangites about Pan Mee, and they will point to you at Jojo Pan Mee or Chili Pan Mee. But if you’re craving after a homely and hearty bowl of Pan Mee that’s made with love, Jing Zhu Pan Mee is the place to go. Dishes here are reasonably priced at RM7 to RM9, for a massive bowl of Pan Mee.

6. Kum Chuan (SS13)

It is safe to say when one talk about Curry Mee near 3k Subang, they are referring to Kum Chuan Curry Mee. This legendary curry mee stall has been operating for decades and won the hearts of Subangites along the way. Last we check the Curry Mee is cost an affordable RM5.80 per bowl! Expect generous toppings of siham, roasted pork, long beans and tofu puffs soak in thick curry broth.

7. Wong Soon Kee (SS14)

When one thinks of mix rice stall in SS14, it’s usually Wong Soon Kee. But they are not just any mix rice stall. Most people come here for their fried chicken. Fun fact: the stall used to be occupied by Lim Fried Chicken.

The boss is in charge of the fried chicken and he is constantly frying the chicken so they are always fresh and warm. You can either eat it on its own, or pair with their mix rice with wide variety of dishes to choose from.

8. Moorthy’s Mathai Restaurant

Indian breakfast is almost everywhere but Moorthy Mathai in particular stood out for their thick and flavourful Dhall combined with chapati, tosai and their crispy roti canai. We can safely say it’s the best Indian breakfast in Subang Jaya. This place is packed with patrons daily, obviously here for the breakfast rush.

9. Kay’s Steak & Lobster

Hidden in the peaceful neighbourhood of Putra Heights is Kay’s Steak & Lobster. This Halal western food restaurant puts together some of the highest quality steak you can imagine. Aside from that, their lobster dishes are phenomenal.

Started selling since year 2000, this almost 20-year-old burger stall is perhaps the one and only ramly burger spot that do drive through by call first then pick up, as their orders are crazy especially between 8pm to 12am. It is also a popular supper spot among night owls as they operate till 3.30am daily.

Raj’s Banana Leaf SS15 opened its doors less than a year ago but the restaurant has been enjoying brisk business since as it is much frequented by the office workers and Subang folks for its banana leaf options. Albeit expensive, in all other regards the curry is flavoursome and the side vegetables are delicious.

2. Moorthy’s Mathai

You would often see Moorthy’s being crowded but their service quality is rather consistent. The Banana Leaf Rice Set always comes loaded with delectable dishes such as stir-fried beansprouts and masala squash. We highly recommend the thick and intensely flavoured dhal as well as their Fried Tenggiri Fish. There is also another outlet at Sunway Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

INT Restaurant is a hidden gem in the neighbourhood of SS13 situated beside 3K Sports Complex. They are a South Indian restaurants serving no-frills Indian dishes and massive spread of vegetables and meats. A standard rice set cost RM8 which is slightly pricier, but the taste certainly justify the price charge. The specialties here include Indian lamb shank priced and kodal curry.

4. Richfield Curry House

Richfield Curry House is situated in a secluded area of USJ1 with lesser crowd. Nonetheless this hidden gem has established a positive reputation among the Subangites for its affordable price and the variety of vegetables. Their mango chutney and mutton bone dhall are not to be missed when you’re here.

Another famous spot for Banana Leaf Rice in the neighbourhood of SS15, Abirami is a decent place for regular Southern Indian cuisine. Their Banana Leaf Rice comes with good choices of various vegetable stews, free flow of curries and pickles. The rice set costs RM6 as of today, which is quite reasonably considering the location.
