Are you bored with the same old bar you’ve been patronising? Well, maybe it’s time to scout for a new place in town.

There’s no shortage of drinking spots in the city, however one with a state-of-the-art robotic arm bartender while you sip and unwind is not that common.

LAVO in Persiaran Tropicana may be familiar to many bar hoppers. They just recently introduced their very own robotic arm bartender named MixoBot. If you want killer cocktails and a killer bar, then this is the place.

Check Out MixoBot, LAVO’s First Robotic Bartender

How does it work, you may ask? Well, no joke, MixoBot can ensure a precise mix of ingredient ratio for a perfect glass of cocktail. MixoBot can be programmed by a professional world-class mixologist within minutes to deliver perfect cocktails every time, without fail.

“Flair bartending has always charmed restaurant patrons and MixoBot aims to do exactly that. Bartenders sometimes may not be as precise as a robot. Customers return drinks to the bar station due to ingredients proportioned that might not suit their taste. The returned drinks cost the bar money and we hope the MixoBot is able to help eliminate this problem – not only for us, but for the restaurants MixoBot serves,” shared by Benson Tay, Executive Director of Focus Dynamics, a fast-growing F&B, entertainment and lifestyle group that runs Lavo.

All you need to do is choose from the menu on iPad and let MixoBot do the rest. We can assure you, you are looking at the first robotic flair bartending in PJ where it can shake and mix drinks, just like a real bartender.

With its flexible arm, MixoBot uses cutting-edge technology, incorporating artificial intelligence to gather data, giving people a more precise and more refined drinking experience.

Good news that there are no additional charges when one orders a cocktail mixed by MixoBot.

So what are you waiting for? Come and experience the MixoBot in-person! Grab a cocktail and a seat, and drink it all in!

You may book a table at Lavo through the GemSpot and mobile application – available on Apple Store and the Google Play Store.

Planning for a quiet trip away from the city, but you have no idea where? Fret not because this quick escape is not only accessible but it is also the perfect change of scenery filled with paddy fields, blue skies and the swishing sounds from the beach.

There are plenty of things to do at Sekinchan without burning a hole in your pocket and giving you a relaxing timeout from the bustling melting pot of Kuala Lumpur.

Here are 8 Stress Free Things To Do In Sekinchan During The Holidays.

1. Take lots of photos at the paddy fields

It being the land of fish and rice, make a visit to the Fisherman’s Wharf as you would be able to witness first hand of the lives of the fishermen. You would be able to see them set foot for their catching journey in the morning, just to return back with a satisfying amount of catch they’ve made from the sea. This is something you don’t often see daily, so this activity is certainly one of the worthy contenders.

3. Satisfy your seafood cravings

Known for inexpensive seafood, don’t leave Sekinchan without fulfilling your seafood cravings. There are plenty popular seafood restaurants scattered around the vicinity and it being packed all the time – it is definitely advisable to call up ahead and make an order and reservation for a table before you miss out. Redang Beach is the hot spot of Sekinchan and visited by many. One of the main attraction you would come across is the famous Sekinchan Wishing Tree. Living in the city, there’s no time or way that you can possibly fly a kite. Being a popular site for kite-flying, purchase a kite from the local vendors and learn how to fly one. The wind is known to be quite strong here so if kite-flying is ever on your bucket list, this would be the place and time for you to check that out from your list.

6. Eat giant mangoes at Mango King

The mangoes here at Sekinchan are known to be as huge as a person’s forearm. Located nearby the Paddy Processing Factory, you would come across a small business selling mangoes and other assorted fruits as well, such as guavas, soursops and many more. Their mangoes are known to be absolutely succulent and juicy, which would make your trip worth while especially during the hot sunny weather.

7. Take an educational tour at the Paddy Processing Factory & Gallery

The best time to visit Sekinchan would be in June and December. It takes almost 110 days before the paddy gets harvested and it being known, paddy is planted twice a year. So if you plan on coming all the way to Sekinchan to witness the paddy fields, it is advisable to come during the said months. But besides that, you can learn all about how rice is processed during the tour. Although you’d be charged with a small fee to join the tour, it is definitely a once in a while experience.

8. Stock up on your favourite keropok

Last but not least, don’t leave the town without buying your stock of local keropok. You can find plenty of flavours from the typical fish and prawn to sweet potato in purple and orange colours. Either purchase them ready fried or individually pack at a street stall opposite Jiann Chyi Restaurant in Bagan, Sekinchan.

Mancave Cafe & Collectibles is a dream come true for every superhero fans. Despite its somewhat secluded location in Puchong, the newly opened cafe has attracted a good amount of diners since its opening in earlier January, and we can clearly see why.

Upon entering into the cafe, the first thing that you will notice is the superhero and villains figurines such as Batman, Ironman, Captain America, Joker, Harley Quinn and more, neatly organised at every corner of this cozy and spacious cafe. It’s like a mini museum for figurines and if you are a superhero fan, you are going to have a fun time taking photos of them.

Founded by 3 superhero fans, the co-founders have been collecting figurines for more than 15 years. This explains why you could see many different superheroes from different generation. One of the co-founder Mr Lee said, the thought of only them admiring the figurines is too selfish. So they decided to open a cafe and displaying their collections, at the same time making Mancave as a cozy cafe for people to dine in and relax.

Latte (RM10.90)

Besides coffee and tea, the juices served here is inspired by your favourite superheroes like Ironman, Deadpool, Hulk, Rogue, just to mention a few.

With Avengers and Deadpool being shown on the cinema this year, we went with Ironman (RM10.90)Deadpool (RM10.90), and Rogue (RM10.90) which recommended by the staff.

Ironman and Deadpool.

Rogue.

Deadpool is the sweeter option between the two drinks, with ice blended blackcurrent and strawberry syrup, while Ironman was sour-sweet and more citrusy. Rogue was sweet and minty, best to beat the heat.

Mancave serves a decent range of main courses for you to pick from. From pasta, to sandwich, and pizza.

If you are looking for a more hearty portion, the Creamy Tom Yam Prawn Pasta (RM14.90) is the one for you. The spaghetti is cooked in a homemade Tom Yum sauce along with pieces of cooked prawns, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes. Delicious but remains light and refreshing.

If you are coming as a pair, Hawaiian Pizza (RM13.90) is good for sharing. Topped with pineapple chunks, chicken, mozarella and cheddar cheese, the dish was great when consumed hot, and the thin crust gives that perfect crunch.

Square Q Mark 1 (RM5.90)

One of the highlights of Mancave Cafe is their mochi waffle. At first glance it may look just like a regular waffle, but one bite is enough to tell the difference.

They have the original waffle Square Q (RM4.90) and Square Q Mark 1 (RM5.90) with several flavours to rotate such as Chocolate, Coffee, Banana and more.

As shown above, you can also opt to consume your mochi waffle with gelato. Named Square Q Mark 2 (RM11.90) in the menu, the waffle was crispy on the outside, yet chewy on the inside. The gelato ice cream at the side was mellow, wonderfully paired with the soft waffle. The portion is suitable for one pax.

Teaming up with a Polish baker, they have crafted a cake menu, from unique flavours like spinach semolina cakes, carrot cakes, depending on the availability of ingredients.

Verdict

Without a doubt, the star attraction of Mancave Cafe is the figurines. They are not for sold, but if you are highly interested to purchase them, you can talk to the staff over the counter or contact one of the co-founder.

Overall it was quite an interesting dining experience in Mancave Cafe. If you are into superhero figurines, you should come to Mancave Cafe at least once. It is a good place to chill with friends and family, have a light snack and drinks.

Malgudi Classic Indian Cuisine is a semi fine dining restaurant that serves both North and South Indian cuisine. It is located minutes away from Jaya One, tucked in quiet alley at Section 16 PJ.

The name Malgudi is adopted from novels and short stories of novelist R.K. Narayan, which is actually a fictional town located in South India.

One thing to note about Malgudi is that it is a high end restaurant and the quality and prices reflects on that.

We started off with their appetizer. The Vegetable Pakora which came with mostly crispy bitter gourd and onions.

The Lollypop Chicken (RM16) is made with chilli, onion, and garlic based gravy and spices topped with spring onions. While it looked really spicy it was surprisingly not punishingly hot. In fact, this dish was slightly on the sweeter side.

We were told by the owner that Thali is modernize version of Banana Leaf Rice. And since no Indian food is complete without curry and rice, we tried the Chicken Thali (RM15.90).

This dish came with white rice and multiple sides and gravies including – lenthil gravy, rasam, vegetables, chicken, curd, papadam, pickle, and gulab jamun. We feel the need to mention that the rice was incredible fluffy which made our eating experience so much tastier.

The dishes on the side were pretty good too. In particular lenthil gravy was thick and creamy. The curries were quite flavourful and delicious.

Do note that the thali sets are only available weekdays from 12PM to 330pm.

Another meat-based dish we had was Mutton Masala (RM19). The mutton was nicely cooked as it was tender and flavourful with marinated spices and dry chillies. The spiciness of the gravy was mild from the red chilli paste.

Salted Egg Chicken Briyani was something unconventional prepared by Malgudi to welcome the Chinese New Year. The Briyani came with generous portion chicken slices that had been marinated with salted egg. The salted egg flavour was mild, not over empowering the aroma of Briyani.

Despite the hefty price, Nandu Rasam (RM8) a.k.a crab rasam was one of the highlights here. It was made to perfection as the crab flavours were strong and the soup was tangy.

Malgudi also offer a wide variety of drinks and desserts. We highly recommend the Kulfi (RM7.50), also known as Indian-style ice cream. It was sweet and had a rich and creamy texture, the perfect way to end a spicy meal.

Verdict

Malgudi is certainly one of the better semi fine dining Indian restaurants in Petaling Jaya. The restaurant has a vintage look to it and it is a relaxing place for lunch or dinner. The Chicken Thali in particular was amazing. We will definitely be dropping by Malgudi pretty soon.

PS: Malgudi’s has dedicated its second floor of the building for private parties and events of up to 55 pax.
