Food festivals are usually massive in Malaysia, but this year none of it is happening. So Tiger Beer Malaysia has planned a month long virtual street food festival this November, by taking things to the online world!

Entitled “Tiger Street Food Virtual Festival”, this is Tiger’s Beer Malaysia fully immersive online street food festival experience, where you can explore Malaysian street food with a personalised 3D avatar!

This is an eventful festival not to be missed, especially for food lovers. It’s happening every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 6th to 29th November 2020.

Let us walk you through on what to expect in Tiger Street Food Virtual Festival:

1. Personalise your own avatar!

Before you get started, you can customise your own avatar, by choosing different styles of hair, tops, bottoms and shoes.

Once it’s done, you’ll be led to the festival, transporting yourself to a full-3D street food festival simulation.

2. Check out and order from different street food vendors!

There are three different “food streets” in this virtual street food festival – Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Penang – each with a selection of famous local vendors and exciting hidden gems.

There will be 88 vendors across the four-week festival offering a wide selection of delicious food as well as festival exclusive items. Some vendors have even created dishes infused with Tiger, or crossover collaborations with other vendors!

In addition, you can buy specially-priced bundle sets of street food and Tiger Beer or Tiger Crystal, and even add on more beer to your order ala carte. Each bundle set also comes with an exclusive set of Tiger Chopsticks. There are two different designs to collect.

As long as you are within a 15km radius of the vendor, you will be able to order the food and get it delivered to you by Tiger Delivery’s partner, DeliverEat!

Here are some of the vendors from each street that you can expect:

You don’t need to spend a fortune to travel overseas. Malaysia is filled with underrated holiday destinations that makes it seem like you’re on a holiday abroad.

Visit Semporna or Pulau Rawa to get a similar vibe of Maldives or even Bora-Bora. Also, feed some cattles in Kundasang that is known as the New Zealand of Malaysia. You can trick your IG followers by capturing envy-enducing holiday photos from these destinations, making them think you’re in foreign lands.

That said, here are the list of underrated destinations you can find locally.

1. Desa Cattle Dairy Farm @ Kundasang, Sabah

Located at the foothill of Mount Kinabalu, you’d come to find a cattle farm filled with Friesian cows. Similar to the farms from New Zealand, you can feed the calves and goats whilst learning how milk is processed here. Fun yet educational, as well. Also, did we mention that you’d get to enjoy the milkiest ice cream made from the farm itself?

2. The Sky Mirror @ Sasaran Beach, Kuala Selangor

Dubbed as Malaysia’s very own Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia’s salt flat), the shallow waters here reflects the sky hence creating a mirror effect that is totally photoworthy. Unlike the salt flat, you’d find just a large space filled with sand and sea water and tiny sea creatures like little hermits, worm and many more. This amazing mirror-like phenomenon only happens twice a month at different times of the day so don’t forget to line your plans out accordingly.

3. Klebang Sand Dunes @ Malacca

Always wanted to feel what it’s like to be in a dessert? Then head down to Malacca and enjoy the long stretch of abandoned reclaimed sand beside Klebang Beach. This has become an impromptu tourist attraction with man-made sand dunes littering the landscape ala the Sahara dessert. You might find some of the dunes several stories high and it’ll feel like you are really lost in a dessert. Get an Insta-worthy panorama shot as well as enjoy a sand boarding experience in one of a lifetime.

4. Semporna @ Sabah

It being the prime dive spots with a diverse marine wildlife, get yourself prepared to go snorkelling whilst witnessing colourful fishes and corals before your very eyes. A relaxing and invigorating getaway for a peace of mind away from the busy city.

5. Pulau Rawa @ Johor

Picture a long stretch of white sand with turquoise waters channeling a similar vibe as the Caribbean. Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it? This relatively untouched island is just off the coast of Johor, preserving its marine wildlife and pristine beauty. Apart from hanging out by a hammock, this tropical paradise includes snorkelling, scuba diving and kayaking. If you are an early riser, then go for a hike up the hill and witness the beautiful sunrise.

6. Rainbow Waterfall @ Sungai Lembing, Pahang

The famous Rainbow Waterfall attraction is located at Sungai Lembing. From its name, be sure to witness a rainbow appearing by the fall at certain hours in the morning. If you’re the adventure junkie type, then this destination is certainly made for you. It being an underrated holiday destination, hike up to the waterfall for a beautiful view. The rainbow is known to appear between 9.50am to 10.45am, depending on how clear the sky is. Take in the glorious view and you sit on the rocks and watch the beauty of Mother Nature.

7. Cameron Highlands @ Pahang

Developed by the British in the 1920s, Cameron Highlands is what one would describe to be peaceful. This cold and serene holiday destination is filled with lush greens of the tea leaf plantation with tea aroma in the air.

While you’re there, don’t forget to visit the famous Strawberry farm and try on their famous ice cream that is out of this world and go strawberry picking, as well. Head down for a lovely hi-tea session at the Cameron Valley Tea House. Sip some of the finest tea as you indulge in the panoramic view of the tea plantation whilst enjoying the cold weather you can’t find back in KL.

8. Pulau Perhentian @ Terengganu

Comprises of several islands, Pulau Perhentian is made for beach lovers. Those seeking a taste of paradise can make a visit as the island is surrounded by numerous coral reefs making it a scuba diver’s haven. The island also offers incredible snorkelling experiences for those who aren’t into diving. Get up close and personal to sea turtles and even juvenile black-tip reef sharks while you’re there.

9. Colmare Tropicale @ Bukit Tinggi, Pahang

This charming resort town is located on the slopes of Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. You’d come to find the buildings around it feature symmetrical patterns and colourful facades mimicking the tiny villages around the Alsace region of France. With a stone bridge and an archway to enter the enclave, it takes you into a fairytale-like world where you’re waiting for knights to pop out from behind you.

Enjoy baked breads and scones whilst sipping on a cup of tea at the nearby café and immerse yourself fully into the experience of visiting a foreign land in your very own country.

10. Pulau Kapas @ Terengganu

This idyllic and secluded island is located on the east coast of Terengganu making it the perfect hidden gem for all. Pulau Kapas is a great place to unwind as you can enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches with swaying palm trees, all around. The meaning behind its name is due to the sandy beaches making it seem like cotton. With clear visibility of the water, you can enjoy exploring the marine life here by snorkelling. Although the island may be small, but it is the perfect holiday destination for you to lay back and relax.

Although KL may be a pricey place, it definitely has its good sides. With plenty of malls and theme parks around, be sure to be a broke bloke by the end of the week. However fret not ‘cause we are here to let you know that there are plenty of fun things and activities you can partake in without spending too much.

This is the guide where you can take your significant other for a date that isn’t movies and dinner!

1. Climb Up Batu Caves

Being one of Selangor’s iconic spots, this pilgrimage site recently underwent a major transformation and it turned out beautiful as ever. This 272 rainbow-step transformation took only 3 days to complete and it is one of the reasons why you should pay the place a visit.

2. Picnic At KLCC Park

KLCC’s Park is one of the popular parks in town, mainly ‘cause of its location. Prepare yourself a picnic and just chil under the shady trees and enjoy the surrounding. Being one of the busiest city, take this chance to wind down and relax as you and nature become one.

3. Visit Petronas Art Gallery

While you’re at KLCC, head inside the mall and visit the art gallery. It holds local art pieces that goes with several different themes such as the Daerah Samad, 50 Ways to Live in Malaysia, Building Merdeka and many more. An oil and gas company promoting art? Well, that’s already an artistic move right there.

4. Free Dataran Merdeka Heritage Guided Tour

Curious about the history behind of our city? Then this is the tour you should consider. Enjoy an immersive experience that showcases the best-preserved parts of colonial KL that lasts for only 2.5hours. To be frank, I’d opt that anytime in comparison to having to sit in class ? This tour shows you the hidden-in-plain-sight gems of the city, something you’d never even seen coming! Never too late for another history lesson, guys!

EDIT: 21 March 2019
Effective 1 May 2018, these guided walks are no longer available as KL Tourism Bureau has decided to terminate it indefinitely.

5. Nature Trail At KL Forest Eco Park

Jungle-trekking is one of those things everyone has in their bucket list. And if you haven’t check that out yet, then probably it is time. Being the oldest protected jungle in Malaysia, the park holds short trails that are suitable for beginners.

6. Test Your Artistic Mind At The National Art Gallery

Being home to several of the nation’s leading artists and designers, you should make it a point to visit the gallery at least once. Although there are plenty of free museums in KL, this is the place you get to find all things related to theatre. It also features experimental works and touring exhibitions which makes it one of the most eminent galleries in the city.

7. Window Shop At KL’s Prime Malls

Hop from one mall to another since everything is just a walking distance away. Equipped with plenty of sophisticated brands, KL malls are where you should be to window shop. Although you may sometimes may not be able to contain yourself, but hey, a purchase is always a gain am I right?

8. Wander Through Petaling Street

Image Credit: VIA FLICKR / ARBRON

Another one stop destination that is perfect for window shopping. Being a shopping paradise for tourists, there’s no harm done to pretend to be one sometimes. It is a undercover market full of tourist tat for sale which is fun place to wonder, if you are in KL. The atmosphere may be chaotic but it is certainly something you don’t get to witness everyday.

9. Take A Walk Around Botanic Park

Stroll around the botanic park and see what Mother Nature has to offer. Often, you can witness professional photographers capturing stunning photos of a new married couple. It is definitely a sight of sore eyes. Plus, take a break from all the pollution and take a breath of fresh air while you’re here. Think of it as a cleanser.

10. Plant A Tree With Free Tree Society

Shahrin Yahya/The Edge

Want to leave your mark and give back to the community? Then this is the perfect place for you to do so! The Free Tree Society gives away free plants in an effort to encourage the community to plant trees and preserve nature. Volunteer during their planting days as well helping to distribute seedlings once sprouted to locations around Klang Valley. This is certainly an activity you can do yourself, with a friend or even your whole family.

11. Visit The National Monument

This is the place that commemorates the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for freedom. The sculpture is a centrepiece of the monument that was designed by an Austrian sculptor back in 1966. Sometimes, history can be one of the most interesting topic to learn even when you’ve already graduated high school.

12. Visit The National Mosque of Malaysia

Being a multicultural country, we are all living in a respectful environment towards one another’s religion. That being said, step foot into this holy ground that is known for its origami-like design. Enjoy the serenity of the place that is full of flora and fauna, giving you a sense of peace in mind.

13. Take A Stroll At Street Art Spots At Jalan Alor, Kuala Lumpur

One of the very popular tourist destinations for street food and seafood, Jalan Alor was given a “new life” with a beautification project by DBKL. The alley behind the old buildings were decorated with flora and fauna artworks, including a stream inspired from Alor Stream that used to flow in the area almost 100 years ago. 10. Muyoo Malaysia

We are all aware that bubble milk tea comes from Taiwan, but hey, why go all the way there when we can create a tasty one locally, as well. Being a homegrown brand, you’d think that they’d limit themselves to certain flavours…and names. But that certainly does not stop Muyoo’s love for everything dirty. With names such as Strawberry Dirty Drink and Brown Sugar Dirty Drink, it definitely does make us think of fancy cocktails from the bar!

Asia attracts thousands of backpackers each year, each looking to experience the incredible people, food and culture. On a salary of less than $1500 a month, it is possible to comfortably travel this area of the world full time.

However, before you go, there are a few things to consider. Whether you are wandering the temples of Nepal or kicking back in Thailand.

Here are 6 Important Things You Should Do Before Backpacking Across Asia.

1. Research the Weather

Asia is a vast and vastly underestimated landscape. The difference between the Indian Himalayas and Thai sandy beaches can be huge, so always check the temperature before you go. Remember that countries located near to the equator may not have hot versus cold seasons like you are used to, but rather wet versus dry. Research the weather conditions and pack accordingly.

2. Pack Light

Image Credit: Photo by Stephan Vance on Unsplash

Southeast Asia comprises 11 countries clustered together. Combined with cheap transport and accommodation, staying in constant motion is an easy and exciting way to travel. However, for this, you must pack as lightly as possible. Although a relatively safe area of the world, only take valuable items which are absolutely essential in case anything is stolen.

3. Learn About the Different Cultures

Image Credit: Dominik Vanyi on Unsplash

Each region of Asia has a unique history and it is useful to understand the culture of the place you are visiting. You don’t need to be an expert, but knowing your Khmer from your Kadazan goes a long way. Be aware of the local religious culture, be it Muslim, Buddhist, or anything else. Being sensitive to this information will ensure you avoid any social faux pas. Being up to date on local laws will also help.

4. Check Visa Requirements

Unlike when traveling throughout the EU or USA, each new country you visit in Southeast Asia will have its own entry requirements. You may have the documents ready for Cambodia, but when you turn up at the Vietnamese border, do you have your passport photos ready?

5. Get Immunized

Much of Asia is covered in dense rainforest, which means there are disease-carrying insects. Some vaccinations are legally required for entry, but you may want to get a few more just to be safe. Pay your nurse a visit for the most up to date advice on what immunizations are recommended.

6. Don’t Plan or Worry Too Much

Image Credit: Jeremy Bishop on Unsplash

There is so much to explore in Asia, but don’t overplan. The best adventures you will have will involve discovering new, unbeaten paths. Enjoy the freedom of going with the flow. Be sensible and wary, but just enjoy the journey.

Researching a place beforehand will help you know what to pack and how to legally enter the country, but don’t over plan. Visiting Asia is a chance to relax, unwind and explore. Follow the simple advice above and you are bound to have life-changing adventure.
