Understanding the love for matcha and everything green tea, Dal.komm COFFEE’s “Love You So Matcha” campaign is offering two premium Matcha Frappes for all Green Tea lovers.

Matcha Frapes:

Mandarin Matcha Frappe @ 17.90

Yuzu Matcha Frappe @ 17.90

Both frappes are green tea-based blended with citrusy fruit flavours. Both matcha drinks were extraordinarily refreshing and interesting because of the citrusy flavours. The citrusy flavour gives a breath of fresh air to the ordinary green tea flavour.

The two drinks also contain no caffeine and it’s excellent if you’re looking for a nutrient-bursting thirst quencher.

Mandarin Matcha Frappe

Made with juices from mandarin orange and matcha, it was a revitalizing sorbet combo. The mandarin orange gave it a nice citrus kick and was energizing without being overly sweet.

Yuzu Matcha Frappe

If you prefer something more overpowering, Yuzu Matcha Frappe is probably for you. The drink was fresh and tangy, and had a strong citron flavour and fragrant. We could taste the yuzu bits as we sip which is packed with vitamin C nutrient.

It’s worth mentioning that the matcha powder used in both beverages is imported from Japan and is also used in other matcha beverage at Dal.komm COFFEE outlets.

The Yuzu Matcha Frappe and Mandarin Matcha Frappe retail at RM17.90 and are available in Dal.komm COFFEE stores starting today until further notice.

If the Frappes alone can’t satisfy your matcha cravings you can pair the beverages with Dal.komm COFFEE’s desserts.

Caramel Honey Shibuya Toast @ RM16.60

The Caramel Honey Shibuya Toast is topped with whipped cream and drizzle with honey. The toast’s exterior was crispy while its interior was super soft with good natural sweet flavours. Best of all, it was packed with a powerful punch of honey aroma.

Matcha Lava Cruffin @ RM18.80

The “croissant-muffin” Matcha Lava Cruffin was quite big and could easily feed up to three ladies. Though the matcha lava wasn’t flavourful enough, the cruffin texture was crispy and paired well with soft cream on top.

Nooks by Baker Dave is one of our favourite cafes to visit in the Klang Valley. This is mainly because dining here always gives out warm and relaxing vibes. More importantly, you will be served by locals or by the owner, Mr David himself. A revisit to Nooks by Baker Dave last weekend was a pleasant one as food and service quality was still up to par.

One of our favourite dishes here is Spicy Carbonara (RM21) and it tasted just as delicious as it was a year ago. While the pasta sauce by itself was already creamy, the creative addition of raw egg yolk gave out an even more rich and thick flavours.

We were incredibly surprise on how generous the café was with the toppings. There were loads of ham, shitake mushroom and cheese all mixed in their spicy creamy sauce. For someone who doesn’t fancy pasta dishes, we have to concede that this is seriously delicious.

For something fun, try the Jenga French Toast (RM21.90) which is basically homemade toast with some seasonal fruits, drizzled in maple syrup. While this dish takes French Toast to a whole new level and provides some interesting Instagram pictures, it was pretty basic. That’s not to say it was bad, it’s just a pretty normal dish. But if you fancy simple-tasting food, then you might like this.

Another dish that we truly enjoyed was the Affogato Waffle (RM16.90). The texture of the waffle is soft and chewy and it went well with the thick espresso flavours mixed in vanilla ice cream.  The portion is suitable for 1 pax.

The stunning Passion Fruit Yogurt (RM15.90) incorporates the unique combination flavours of yogurt, granola, honey and passion fruit (imported by the owner’s farm). This dessert is all about the textures and strong yogurt flavours in every bite. It might not be suitable for those who prefer smooth dessert textures, but we found the dish to be pretty good.

Verdict

Needless to say it was a pleasant revisit experience. It warms our hearts to see that Nooks by Baker Dave continues to strive in business while having very little online media coverage. Yes, as of writing this review, you will never find crappy Chinese FB page promoting this awesome café. This proves that good food sells and it attracts all sorts of diners, from Malays, to Chinese and even expats.

While prices are on the higher side as most cafes are, Nooks by Baker Dave backs it up with their quality, no MSG, and top notch service.

Though most café in the Klang Valley are known for their cosy and Instagram-worthy interior, Frisson at Damansara Utama in particular stands out with its bizarre food combination that will blow your mind. Take burgers for example. Instead of using regular buns, Frisson use waffles. Regardless what sorts of burger you opt for, you most likely will leave the café with a stuffed tummy as most of the burgers here are pretty hefty.

The most famous item in the menu is the Wessy Waffle Burger (RM28.90) which comes with a combination of sweet and savoury ingredients, namely beef patties, beef bacons, sunny side egg, lettuce, tomato slices. Lastly, the burger was loaded with peanut butter and jam.

One of the key items that Frisson emphasises is that you will be able to taste the quality of their Australian beef patty when you take your first bite into their burger, which is fresh and never frozen. The main flavours of this dish certainly comes from the peanut butter which was thick and creamy but did not overpower the quality of the beef or other ingredients too much.

We suggest forget about being elegant to eat this dish with fork and knife. Be prepared for a messy affair and just dive into this burger with your bare hand.

On 23th March 2018, Frisson will be launching new Donut dishes in its menu and we sampled 3 of the potential best-sellers.

The Double Donut Ringmaster Burger (RM29.90) is a savoury dish and the donuts were stacked on one another with egg, bacons, and beef patties in between. All ingredients were fresh without a doubt, but we felt the Nutella Oreo Burger (RM27.90) tasted better.

Since they were using Krispy Kreme donut, there was not much to shout out about the donut. But what we enjoyed the Nutella Burger most was the right combination of sweet and savoury. Not only the whole dish does not feel greasy nor sinful considering the generous amount of Nutella was used, the balance of the flavours was interesting.

Next up, the sea salt flavoured soft serve donut which beautifully named as Luscious Surprise (RM22.90) was one hell of a stunning dish. It was aesthetically pleasing and we were told that the sea salt soft serve is inspired by an ice cream parlour from Sydney Australia. Taste wise, it was indeed strange, we certainly not used to something salty to be in icy cold form.

Verdict

After dining here it is clearly to see why Frisson has been successful throughout the years. Service was top notch and the staffs were all Malaysians who are well trained and knowledgeable in their food items.

The food here is NOT gimmicky but creative and well thought-out. The outlet is beautifully designed and also their angel wings wall painting will make up interesting Instagram pictures.
