Feast on Sunny Queen’s Ramadhan Set which comes with one whole roasted chicken during this Ramadhan.

Originates from Taiwan and was brought to Malaysia, Italian restaurant Sunny Queen is introducing two Ramadhan set menus – Premium Ramadhan Set (4 pax) from RM160 and Supreme Ramadhan Set (8 pax) from RM280.

The Ramadhan set comes with Starter, Main Course and After Meal to match which nicely curated by the culinary team from Sunny Queen. We begin our meal with the Starter consists of Mixed Fruits Salad, Mushroom Soup and accompanied with a mandatory Kurma (Fresh Dates).

The ingredients paired well together. The salad tasted light and refreshing. The orange dressing at the side brought out the flavour of the lettuce and apple slices. The only blemish in an otherwise perfect thing, it would be great if there are more fruits in the salad so that we can cleanse and refresh our appetite before we start enjoying the main courses.

The mushroom soup on the other hand was flavoured just right and creamy as well. The soup was certainly homemade and not poured out of the can.

As for the mains, we had the Signature Dancing Queen, Beef Skewer, Raisin Basmati Rice, and Mixed Mushroom Aglio Olio.

The Dancing Queen roasted chicken is the main attraction of Sunny Queen. This humongous chicken is really impressive and we felt surprised with the tender soft and juicy fresh meat which really fulfilling our appetite.

It somehow reminded us of delicious tender chicken in Chinese restaurant but it is actually roasted whole chicken marinated in chef’s secret marinade spices, with roasted seasonal vegetables served with spicy chilli sauce and spicy lemon dipping sauce.

Two different carbs are offered here: the Raisin Basmati Rice and Mixed Mushroom Aglio Olio.

The Beef Skewer was pretty good in our opinion. The meat chunks were decent sized, tender, and flavourful, and consists of authentic blend of BBQ sauce.

If you come with a group of 8, do opt for the Supreme Ramadhan Set, which serves the same items as the Premium Set, and including a Hawaiian Pizza. It was great, baked with generous amount of fresh prawns, pineapples and cheese melted on top. There is really nothing to complain about.

As mentioned above, Sunny Queen Ramadhan Set for 4 pax cost from RM160 and 8 pax cost from RM280, both comes with a jar of free-flow roselle lemongrass drink.

The rise of roadside burger stalls over the years is a good thing because it offers more inexpensive yet tasty options for us working class folks. Famed for their signature crispy burger, Burger Baek is probably the most inexpensive yet delicious burger stalls in Bandar Sunway.

While the founders of Burger Baek started selling burgers 15 years ago, they only recently introduce their signature Crispy Chicken Burger Baek which made them super popular in a matter of months. From what we saw, customers came flooding in and people are willing to wait an hour just to get a taste of the popular Crispy Chicken Burger Baek.

The Crispy Chicken Burger Baek is basically fried boneless chicken thigh topped with cheese sauce, mayo and chilli sauce. For some reason, their homemade BBQ sauce is provided in a separate packet. Double crispy chicken patty cost an additional RM3 while add on cheese cost only RM1.

The ordering process is simple. First you tell the abang your order and name, next you wait for your name to be called out once your burger is done.

We had the Double Crispy Chicken Burger Baek Cheese (RM8) and it was freaking delicious. The fried chicken quite crispy, juicy and tender on the inside, it matched well with the soft buns and sauces. If you opt for Double you’ll realize the patties are super thick.

In our humble opinion, it tastes way better than KFC’s Zinger Burger and much cheaper too. The homemade BBQ sauce was certainly unique and had distinctive homemade flavours. They added just the right amount of sauces which did not over shadow the fried chicken taste.

Verdict

Overall Burger Baek is a hidden gem for folks living in Petaling Jaya. The Crispy Chicken Burger Baek is cheap and delicious. The fried chicken here is among one of the crispest, well-seasoned and tastiest in the Klang Valley.

Seeing how each burger would cost you RM4 only, we don’t see why you shouldn’t give Burger Baek a try.

Restaurant Nasi Kandar Shaaz is located walking distance from Sunway University, tucked into the row of workshops on the back street of Bandar Sunway.

The restaurant has been operating in the Klang Valley for many years and this is the 6th branch. We were invited to sample some of the best dishes offered by Nasi Kandar Shaaz and it definitely surpassed our expectation.

Although it is their second day of operation, Nasi Kandar Shaaz pulled a huge crowd which is a positive sign of the food here.

Nasi Kandar Shaaz is self-service. To order your food you need to get in line at the food or drinks counter and let the staff know what items you fancy in your Nasi Kandar.

There were around 20 dishes ranging from fried chicken, mutton varuval, fish egg masala and fish head curry. We opted for the standard fried chicken, cabbage, and squid over white rice and “kuah campur”.

Turns out Nasi Kandar Shaaz was quite delicious. The restaurant uses quality ingredients as the squid was fresh, soft and tender and the curries were thick and flavourful. The fried chicken had a crispy texture which complimented the curries and soft rice well.

We could not walk out before trying their Briyani. The Briyani set came with a large piece of chicken and topped with boiled egg. The Briyani flavours were quite delicious and the chicken was well marinated.

The Briyani set also came with Achar, Curry and papadam which goes well with the Briyani rice.

If you fancy mutton with your Briyani, do opt for the Mutton Varuval. The gravy which thick and robust, and the mutton was unbelievably tender.

However if you fancy something exotic do opt for their Fish Egg.

Looking for a Fish Head Curry spot? We are happy to say that Nasi Kandar Shaaz also offers Fish Head Curry dish. It is one of the best Fish Head Curry dishes we’ve had in Bandar Sunway. The curry was spicy and flavourful and quite addictive. We found ourselves drinking the curry, it was that good.

Sup Kambing was a great option for those who love something soupy. The Sup Kambing packed a punch of flavour from the mutton and herbs, very aromatic while not overly spicy.

If you’re coming here for breakfast do opt for their Nasi Lemak Ayam. We loved that the chicken was perfectly fried, tasty and crispy on the outside while tender on the inside. We also loved the sambal which was quite tasty as well.

Of course, Teh Tarik is so much a part of Mamak culture. You certainly cannot leave without tasting their tea. Since it was pretty hot on that day, we opted for a glass of Teh Tarik Ice, which was strong and not overly sweet.

Accompanied by a smooth glass of their Watermelon Lychee (RM6.50), perfect thirst quencher after a hearty meal.

Verdict

Nasi Kandar Shaaz offers quality food which balances the taste and price. The curries from the Nasi Kandar dish were surprisingly delicious and a must try for Nasi Kandar lovers.

We can say this restaurant serves inarguably the best Indian Fish Head Curry and Nasi Kandar in Bandar Sunway, no doubt.

The restaurant also offers Many other dishes such as Malay Nasi Kandar, Tom Yum and other typical mamak food such as Roti Canai, Tosai and more.

Formosa is one of the longest-running eateries in Sunway Pyramid. Rightfully so, since the price of their sets is a bargain (compared to other restaurants in Sunway Pyramid) and the best sellers are pretty good.

Lunch and dinner times can get crowded with long queues and lack of unoccupied seats, so try and go early or later. Despite the popularity, Formosa lack of online presence and reputable review. With that said, we’ve decided to do an unbiased review of Formosa so that you know what to expect.

We ordered the cheapest set, Crispy Fried Chicken and Braised Sauce Rice (RM10.50) and Lo Bak Spinach Noodle (RM8.50).

The fried chicken was served in pieces for easy consumption, a tad bit spicy and overall quite flavourful. While the fried chicken looks massive, it’s actually coated with lots of flour and is pretty boney, resulting in soggy crust. Nonetheless the fried chicken complements the Braised Sauce Rice well, a mixture of soft and crispy gives an interesting chewing experience.

Formosa’s Braised Sauce Rice was scrumptious as every spoonful of rice was pleasurable in the mouth. The rice is nicely fragrant and soft, it can be eaten by it own without the fried chicken.

Unfortunately the Lo Bak Spinach Noodle was horrible, the noodle was uncooked, there was just too much of fried onion on top of the noodle, the overall dish was disappointing and it’s definitely too salty. Upon having our first bite we instantly regretted ordering this dish and should have opt for something else.

It’s also worth mentioning the service was prompt and efficient.

If you happen to be at Sunway Pyramid and looking for something affordable and fulfilling, Formosa at Asia Avenue is probably your best bet.

There are many restaurants in the Klang Valley that serve good food but provide not-so-good service. Aside from scrumptious dishes, what makes an eatery stand out is the degree to which the restaurant is willing to go above and beyond ensure that the diners are happy with the food and overall experience.

Talking to the diners may seem like a daunting task to some servers but that’s one of the keys on operating a successful restaurant. Regardless how delicious a restaurant’s dishes are, it’s highly unlikely for customers to come back for the second time if they’ve had a bad experiences with your servers.

With that said we’ve ranked the top 10 restaurants with sincere service in the Klang Valley.

10. Rak Thai Food Restaurant

Whenever top up for rice, cabbage and soup is needed there’s not a need to raise up your hand and alert the waiters as they are highly trained professionals who consistently has an eye on your table. Located at Bangsar Shopping Mall, Dancing Fish is a hidden gem of Malay-Indo dishes such as the signature Dancing Fish, Gulai Pucuk Paku, and Balinese Crispy duck. Price is on the higher side compared to most Malay and Indonesian restaurants but its strongly justified by the eatery’s impressive service. The staff knew the menu inside out and is willing to recommend dishes without any hidden agenda. It’s fair to say the waiters are well trained, super attentive and great at taking photo for your Instagram too.

4. Puchong Chettinad Mess

They will dance and sing as your martini is shaken in front of you and happy hour bells will fill the air with a festive sound.

1. myBurgerLab

myBurgerLab is no stranger to many burger lovers in and out of the Klang Valley, especially after the eatery’s brilliant marketing of the Nasi Lemak burger. One thing that’s arguably better than the restaurant’s burgers is their sincerity. Judging from the company’s lengthy post on social media, they come off as humble and sincere, they genuinely care about everyone (not only their customers, but everyone).

This is one of the few restaurants in the Klang Valley that’s not keen on taking your money by recommending the most expensive burger. Instead, they treat you as people, not customers which earned them the number 1# spot on this list.
