Whilst it’s easy to pass off Mr Fish FishHead Noodle as another generic commercialised restaurant, upon closer look you can see the restaurant serves authentic homely cooked fish head noodles. As of today Mr Fish Head has two outlets in Malaysia – The Starling Mall and Sunway Pyramid.
There are four types of soup base to choose from – Milky, Curry Laksa, Clear Soup and Tom Yam. Aside from grouper fillet, Mr. Fish FishHead also serves grouper fish head, fish maw, homemade fish ball and giant river prawn.
A quick chat with the owner Mrs Khoo revealed that Mr. Fish FishHead Noodle Restaurant uses homemade secret recipe which is inherited from the Khoo’s family generation. It’s also important to note that this restaurant doesn’t not use MSG or add any pork ingredients in dishes. Yet the noodle dishes here are still seriously delicious.
Grouper Fillet Curry Laksa Meehoon @ RM17.90 is Mr. Fish FishHead’s signature dish and it’s suitable for those who have a strong palate. The noodles were silky and paired well with the buttery coconut milk curry broth. Despite looking reddish, the flavour was just right and not spicy at all. Hence if you have low heat tolerance, you can still try this.
Premium Udang Galah & Grouper Fillet Milky Soup Meehoon @ RM32.90 is for those who don’t mind splurging. The milky soup broth had a unique sweetness which came from the giant river prawn. The flavours from the river prawn kick up the flavors of the dish by a notch. Although RM32.90 for a noodle dish may seem a lot it’s important to note that river prawns are super expensive and the one we had here was succulent and fresh.
Grouper Fillet & Fish Maw Clear Soup Meehoon @ RM15.90. This is for those who prefer something light and easy on the palate. That being said, the flavours of the fish and Shaoxing wine was gratifying and refreshing making this a healthy and appetizing dish.
If you’re not a fan of noodles, you may opt for the Seafood Mix Teochew Porridge @ RM19.90. It comes with just the right amounts of prawn, grouper fillet, fish maw and homemade fish prawn.
Considering the taste and quality of food served to us, we would say Mr. Fish FishHead Noodle Restaurant is an affordable lunch option for a shopping mall restaurant. If you are looking for a new wallet-friendly Fishhead Noodle restaurant in Petaling Jaya, this would be a good option.
