Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade Hotel is a hip and trendy 4-star hotel located at Pudu, a stone throw away from the shopping belt of KL such as Berjaya Time Square and Pavilion KL. Run by its parents company AccorHotels, Mercure Hotel is the first Mercure brand in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Bookings.com, a 2D1N stay at Mecure Hotel would cost RM250 (excluding tax).
Checking In
Upon arrival at the Mercure Hotel on a Saturday afternoon, we eagerly made our way through the lobby to check-in with the staff. Check in time was at 3PM however, we were told to wait an extra hour as the room was not yet ready and the hotel was fully booked. So we waited at the lobby and there were no apologies or even courtesy drinks were given.
The Deluxe Queen room that we stayed isn’t spacious but is good enough for 2 pax. The room is also well-appointed with essentials such as an electric kettle, air conditioning, LED flat screen TV, safe box, shower, cupboard, complimentary WiFi throughout the premises, and an incredibly plush and comfortable bed.
Other highlights were the cosy day lounge sofa perched by the floor-to-ceiling windows, ideal for chilling and the decent view of Bukit Bintang area.
Our only gripe about the room was the lack of soundproofing, it was extremely irritating to hear loud conversations in the corridor and people opening and closing their room doors. Especially when it’s 12:30AM and you’re trying to get some quality sleep.
Facilities
The outdoor pool and bar on the 20th floor provide a decent view of Bukit Bintang city. The pool was much smaller than what you’d expect from a 4 star hotel. When it gets crowded it can be very uncomfortable as there’s almost no room for swimming. There is also a fitness studio which comes with cardio machines, free weights, exercise balls and mats.
Mercure Hotel’s sole restaurant, Chorak was disappointing. The quality of the food was utterly bad, even food from the mamak stall is better quality than what we had. Food items such as the fried noodle and fried rice tasted blend. There were very few choices, especially for a 4-star restaurant.
Verdict
While Mercure Hotel may not be the best hotel we’ve stayed as there were many misses, our stay is still considerably decent. Despite the bad soundproof, the room is pretty relaxing and comfortable. The hotel is waking distance to many eateries, such as a mamak store, and Chinese eateries. Convenience stores like 7-11 and 99 Speedmart are also skirt around the premise.
All in all, Mercure Hotel is an alright place to stay if you’re ONLY expecting a comfortable room and a good location. It’s an ideal accommodation if you’re after a shopping spree at the city’s Golden Triangle area.
