Gindaco @ SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands Resort

Takoyaki is a savory snack originated from Japan. In Malaysia, they can be found in grocery store like Aeon and night markets. But if you are looking for a solid takoyaki joint, Gindaco is your best bet. Gindako is a famous takoyaki stand originated from Japan. The brand came to Malaysia in 2015 and their business has since boomed through word-of-mouth publicity.

As of today, there are 9 Gindaco outlets in Malaysia, at shopping malls in the Klang Valley such as 1Utama, Pavillion, and Publika, as well as in Penang at Avenue K and Gurney Plaza. We have previously tried Gindaco in Aeon Shah Alam, but this review is precisely for Gindaco SkyAvenue’s outlet.

The SkyAvenue’s outlet comes with a dining area where you dine in but there are only a few tables and chairs are available. Bear in mind that SkyAvenue is a tourist attraction, hence there is always a crowd in the outlet. Gindcaco has a great selection of flavours and sizes, depending on how hungry you are.

We ordered the Ebi Mayo Takoyaki (6 pieces @ RM17.90 / 8 pieces @ RM20.90) which was topped with shrimp and mayonnaise. Despite the higher price, not to mention every thing are slightly pricier in SkyAvenue Genting, we are not denying with the fact that the takoyaki was delicious.

The unassuming looking takoyaki was firm but soft to bite, and it melted it your mouth. There were big chunks of octopus inside each takoyaki. The snack was actually quite filling and we shared one order amongst two people.

Verdict

Out of all the different takoyaki stalls we’ve tasted in our entire life, Gindaco stood out from all. The only drawback of Gindaco is the price. It cost RM17.90 for 6 takoyakis, therefore it is not something we consider as cheap. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable snack to munch on in this cold weather at Genting.
