Nasi Kukus Ilham only serves one dish which you can guess it from the restaurant’s name itself, Nasi Kukus. What makes their nasi kukus special is their flavorful gulai, well marinated chicken and pineapple chunks. Imagine having a spoonful of fluffy rice with their spicy curries, topped with fried chicken and pineapples, a spicy sensation with a slight hint of sweetness!

What makes this Nasi Lemak unique is they actually fry santan rice with their homemade sambal over a hot wok. 3. Sri Ganapathi Mess

Sri Ganapathy Mess is hidden in the mist of residence houses and can be easily missed. They don’t have any signage but you can find them by looking for their catering van which is often parked outside the shop. What makes their Banana Leaf Rice stands out from the rest is their incredibly robust curries and the authentic ingredients used. Best of all, the rice and vegetables are all refillable and free. You can also pair your rice with their chicken varuval or fried calamari as an extra treat to the whole experience. Sure, the price is on the higher side (for a humble restaurant) but we say for food this good, its absolutely worth it.

4. Aunty Christina Laksa

Looking for an authentic bowl of Sarawak Laksa? Look no furthur. Auntie Christina has been serving up hearty Sarawak Laksa close to 20 years. Her Sarawak Laksa comes with prawns, strips of chicken, shredded egg, bean sprout, and some greens as garnish.

This stall is one of the few reputable Nasi Kandar places in the Klang Valley. Nasi Kandar Zainul is said to have the oomph curry flavors that can only be found in Penang nasi kandar stalls. The curries pack a punch as it was spicy, thick and wonderful. They are also known for crispy fried chicken which is said to be super juicy and delicious.

6. Chuan Lee Char Kuey Teow

If you ever visited Chuan Lee Restaurant, and noticed a grumpy uncle frying char kuey teow, you probably know which stall we are talking about. The uncle is certainly super fierce but his char kuey teow is one of the best in town. It is moist and has a robust flavour. He does not entertain any others add-on or extra toppings. However, you can still get a bigger portion of noodles with just RM1 extra.

7.  Lao Ping Hokkien Mee

Lao Ping Hokkien Mee has been serving Hokkien Mee in PJ for more than 30 years. To-date, the owner still insist on using charcoal to cook after all these years. Every single plate is prepared by the owner himself to ensure the consistency quality. Just a head-start for those who are planning a visit, the average waiting time 30-40 minutes, so please be patient.

8. Brader John Ramly Burger

Brader John Ramly Burger is located right opposite of Texas Chicken at Damansara Uptown. It is a humble food truck that serve inarguably the best Ramly Burger in the Klang Valley and after trying it we couldn’t disagree. With a pretty extensive menu, be sure to get messy because his burgers are drenched in his own special sauce and toppings which definitely leave you satisfied.

9. Nasi Lemak Village Park

Village Park restaurant serves one of the best nasi lemak in Petaling Jaya area. Their restaurant is always full of people and there is always a queue waiting to dine in their restaurant. Even our current and previous Prime Minister and even Dato’ Lee Chong Wei have dined here. Although the queue is always long, they serve their nasi lemak extremely fast, 15 minutes tops to get your food. As for their taste, fluffy coconut rice paired with their spicy sambal and finished with a bite of their crunchy chicken drumstick. Delicious!

10. Pork Noodle – Kedai Kopi Wah Cheong, Seksyen 17

Wah Cheong’s pork noodles comes in two types – the soup version and the dry version. The soup version is slightly above average compared with other restaurants or stalls that serve pork noodles. But their dry version pork noodles is said to be the bomb. It might look like an ordinary bowl of pork noodles but their minced meat is so fragrant and flavourful. Combine it with their homemade Hor Fun, exquisite taste that keeps people coming back for more.

11. Tasty Chapathi – Seksyen 19

Tasty Chapathi originated from Jalan Ipoh and expanded 2 years ago to Seksyen 19 at Petaling Jaya area. Their restaurant focuses on providing healthier but yet delicious Indian cuisine. Most of their chefs came from India to ensure they are experts in cooking India cuisine. Their Raj Kachori is a must try dish in their restaurant. It is made of dried lentils, peas and beans, and mixed with 3 different sauces which are tamarind, mint and yoghurt. It exploded in flavours as the dried beans give a sweet flavours with a slight touch of sourness from the yoghurt.

Bean Brother is one of the most reputable cafes in the Klang Valley. Known for their well crafted food cooked by well trained chefs. They serve quite a long list of roasted coffee beans from Ethiopia all the way to Brazil. It is definitely a great place for coffee lovers . They also have a limited selection of dishes prepared by their chefs but do take note that their kitchen closes at 4.30pm! So be there early if you are going for their food!

Nippori is the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Petaling Jaya. Operated by a humble Japanese family living in Malaysia, they specializes in Japanese home cooked food which is common and popular among Japanese families such as Donburi and Teishoku (a set meal comes with a main dish, vegetables, fruits and soup). It worth mentioning that the Sushi Chef is the owner’s father who has over 40 years of experience making Sushi in Japan. If you are planning to enjoy such hearty and nourishing meal come early as they have a few seats in their restaurant.

Another hidden gem in Petaling Jaya, Jackson’s Burger is a food truck hiding in a residential area. Operated by the owner and his wife, they have been serving great burgers for over 40 years. Unlike many other burger stalls, their burgers focus on quality and come with minimal sauce, which is less greasy. Their patties are all homemade which makes it more flavourful and substantial and juicier.

14. Ramen – Menya Shi-Shi Do

Many would say Menya Shi-shi Do is the place to go for the BEST Japanese Ramen in Petaling Jaya, and we absolutely agree! Every bowl of Ramen is prepared by the Japanese owner who learned to speak Malay to converse better to his customers.

You can add in different flavours such as curry, basil, garlic and a few more, to the broth itself according to your personal preferences. The noodles usually comes with generous portion of noodles, a few pieces of Charshu and an Ajitama egg. The broth are usually smooth and delectable and goes so well with their firm and silky noodles, definitely a hearty bowl of ramen.

Restoran O & S is a great place for Penang hawker food as they serve tons of Penang cuisines such as Prawn Mee, Assam Laksa, Char Koay Teow and many more. Assam laksa is the most popular dish here which people keep coming back for more. It comes with the classic ingredients such as mackerel, sliced cucumbers, onions, fresh mint leaves and generous amount of noodles. The soup is said to be spicy but comes with a hint of sour taste.

The owner of Tropikiri prawn mee stall came back from New York after working as a chef for several years. Oscar winning director Ang Lee was one of his loyal customers. The owner prepare the prawn mee by himself to ensure the consistent quality of the dish. While it’s certainly not the best Prawn Mee, it’s still pretty delicious and worth a try.

17.  Mee Sotong – SS2 Rising Kopitiam

You don’t have to travel all the way up to Penang to try the famous Mee Sotong, as the brother of Hameed Pata Mee Sotong has his own stall in Petaling Jaya. The owner Mr Seeni who is beloved by his customers, is one of the few stalls in the Klang Valley that sells this dish

The sotong sambal here is marinated and cooked for 6 hours to ensure the it soaked up all the essences of their special sauces. Nothing beats the charred taste of the mee goreng paired with their flavourful sotong.

18.  Chee Cheong Fun – SS2 Chow Yang Kopitiam

SS2 Chow Yang Kopitiam houses multiple great stalls, such as prawn mee, chicken rice, Penang Lobak and many more. However, what stole the show for us is their Chee Cheong Fun. The stall has been in the market started since 1979. You can select from the wide range of ingredients such as fish balls, bean curds, fish cakes and others, to go with your Chee Cheong Fun.

When a stall sells out their Curry Mee within 2 hours every day, you can tell the dish is going to taste good. Both of the stall owners are from Penang,and their Curry Mee has all the classic ingredients such as prawns, cockles, beancurd puffs and pork blood cube. The special ingredient is shredded cuttlefish. The crunchiness of the cuttlefish mixed with their own family secret recipe chilli paste, is a combination of texture and flavour that won the hearts of many folks form PJ.

20.  Rojak Penang (Pasembor) & Cendol Penang – Taman Megah

If you find a truck parked at the side of the road along LDP, congratulations you found the famous Rojak Penang and Cendol Penang. The Cendol here is perfect for those who prefer less sweetness and more “watery”. The portion size is huge, especially for a bowl that only cost RM3. The Rojak with Sambal Sotong is super delicious and is undoubtedly the best thing about this stall!

21. Flying Wan Tan Mee – PJ Seapark

The owner started the stall 10 years ago and has been preparing this Wan Tan Mee since then. His Wan Tan Mee is usually tossed up to 2 stories high as a performance to the customers waiting for their noodles. However, don’t be deceived by the owner performance as his noodles are as good as his shows. The noodles has just the right thickness and loaded with flavourful dark sauce.

22. Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh

Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh serves Bak Kut Teh that is as close in flavour as to the one in Klang while still standing out in its own way. It is usually quite crowded during dinner time, so if you are planning to make a visit, be there early to prevent such a long wait.

23. Hoe Fong Chicken Rice

Hoe Fong Chicken Rice has been in business for four decades, they are one of the few places in PJ that serves crispy roast chicken rice. Before serving, the staff will do a quick hot oil drench to really bring out the crispiness of the chicken skin. Do try the lobak and braised egg, they are good too and try dark soy sauce on your rice.
