In our humble opinion, Pudu has to be the best food city in Kuala Lumpur. If you’re on a food-vacation in KL, consider staying in Pudu as you’ll never run out of things to eat.

Listing down 20 of the best food in this amazing city can be a difficult task as there are so many things to try here, but we’ve tried our best to narrow down the best of the best Pudu has to offer.

Do note most of the places listed are always crowded and parking can be a nightmare but the wide arrays of delicious delicacies make all the hassles worth it.

1. Winson Berger

Located just in front of ICC Pudu, Winson Berger has been operating for more than 40 years. The uncle has been selling his sandwiches since the 1980’s, you can be sure it is really really good. He started with toasting the buns over charcoal. Then top a generous amount of chicken floss, cucumber and Bak Kwa. Finish it with tomato sauce or chilli sauce of your choice! Mmm, delicious!

2. Restoran Sin Hiap Kee

From far, Sin Hiap Kee might look like an old and ordinary kopitiam but once you tried their food, there is no turning back. Having decades of history, Sin Hiap Kee only opens for 4 hours a day, offers a variety of irresistible local dishes for their mix rice spread. But if you’re ready to splurge, don’t miss out on their fish head curry here. If you’re not a fan of fish head curry, their sambal sotong and fried chicken are two must try dishes before you leave.

3. 168 Wantan Mee

Located opposite of SJKC Chong Fah Phit Chee, 168 Wantan Mee is a very popular breakfast spot in KL. The aunty has been making her own noodles for over 20 years. Each serving of her delicious wantan mee comes with huge amount of freshly-made Char Siew and a bowl of flavourful broth with huge prawn dumplings.

4. Heun Kee Claypot

Heun Kee Claypot is known as one of the best claypot chicken rice in KL. The owner have been serving delicious pot of claypot chicken rice for over 30 years. They are still using the most traditional way of cooking their signature claypot chicken rice which is placing them on top of burning hot charcoals and stirring them once in awhile to ensure each and every grain gets the flavour! And finally, topped it will an egg and mixed them with the salted fish they give.

With up to 10 choices of sandwiches for you to choose from, A Toast prepare each and every sandwiches upon orders to ensure the freshness of their foods. They signature will definitely be their Bamboo Charcoal Toast as it is made from Charcoal breads and filled with eggs, tomatoes and many many chicken floss. Who is craving for some good old Penang Prawn Mee? We know we definitely do! Luckily we found a great place in Pudu that serve delicious and authentic Penang Prawn Mee! Operated by a chinese couple, the owner claims that he has been making noodles since he was 10! He started his own stall when he is 26 years old and has been cooking since then! To ensure the tastiness of his broth, he insists on using live sea prawns to bring out the rich and distinctive taste of the broth!

7. Sulaiman Cendol

Hungry for some cheap desserts in Pudu area? Look no further, Sulaiman Cendol serves the most traditional but yet affordable cendols in towns! With only RM1.40, you can get a classic cendol with generous amount of ingredients such as red beans, corns and more. They also have others selection such as their famous ABC dessert which is a bowl of shredded ice with multicolor pearls, glass jellies and corns. It is a perfect dessert for such hot days in Malaysia.

8. Kei Suk Wantan Mee

Kei Suk Wantan Mee is also another renowned wantan mee stall in Pudu. The owner started to serve their wantan mee since 60 years ago! OMG! And he has been using the same old method since then to cook his signature wantan mee. The noodle is cooked to perfection and topped with minced pork and loads of Char Siew. And what makes it more incredible is that, it only cost RM6.50! No wonder people are willing to wait for an hour just for this bowl of one of a kind bowl of greatness.

9. Nasi Lemak Ann

Nasi Lemak Ann might not be those stalls that open for decades but trust us, the nasi lemak there is so good! What makes the stall so special is the sides they sell. They sell the typical nasi lemak dishes such as sambal sotong, fried chicken, sambal chicken and many more. However, they also sell the non traditional dishes like curry pork skin and siham sambal. Both of these dishes you cannot find anywhere else so do drop by and give it a shot.

10. Wong Mei Kee Roast Pork

To sell a plate of Roast Pork for RM17, Wong Mei Kee Roast Pork must be freaking delicious. This legendary Roast Pork is so popular, it is usually sold out within 3 hours so do come early if you are planning to try some! The owner, Mr Wong started his shop at the age of 20’s, and start to serve this legendary roast pork ever since. The roast pork is crispy from the outside and juicy on the inside. The crackling sound occurs when you sink your teeth into the meat and the juice will start splashing in your mouth.. Woot! What an experiences!

11.  Keong Kee Herbal Soup

Located in front of Shaw Parade, Keong Kee specializes in exotic herbal soup. They have many choices for you to choose from such as pig brains, squirrel soup, pigeons soup and many more. If these are too bizarre for you, there is also regular herbal soups in the menu, such as chicken soup and old cucumber soup. It is definitely something you would want to give it a go once in your lifetime.

It’s finally time for something hot and spicy. Fatt Kee Roast Fish is well known for their spicy pot of seafood. It usually comes with fish, prawns, claims and many more. And of course the most important part of all, the broth itself. You can choose from different levels of spiciness but beware even Level 1 is enough to make any beginners in tears, so pick wisely! They also serve different sides such as fried eggs, vegetables and chicken pots so there is definitely something for everyone.

Another legendary prawn mee that is located at Pudu. San Peng Prawn Mee is a family business that have been running for decades. Strategically situated beside Pudu LRT, San Peng has their own rendition of Prawn Mee which they garnish with pieces of chicken. If you’re planning to splurge, opt for their Prawn Mee Special, pricy but comes with extra prawns.

14. Claypot Chicken Rice @ 168 Coffee Shop

There is another famous claypot chicken beside Heun Kee worth visiting is in front of 168 Coffee Shop. The nameless stall open only during evening and usually have a long queue for it so be prepared to wait. The owner has been operating for more than 30 years and still insist on cooking each and every pot by his own to ensure the taste will not differ from one and the others. The chicken rice comes with charcoaled rice aromas and every spoonful you take you can definitely taste the Siao Xin wine they pour into the chicken rice!

Take a slip of their delicious kopi and then take a bite of their kaya toast, this is what we call enjoy life in the fullness!

If you are around Pudu station during evening, you need to visit ZK Restaurant which is just opposite the parking lots near the station. Their Tze Char is super famous mainly due to their affordable price and superB food! They serve huge varieties of food, from stir fried vegetables, curry pots, and all the way to pork ribs. Talking about their pork ribs, it is cooked to perfection and fried with the sauce of your choice, so good! Another dish that you should miss is their salted egg squid! Crunchy fried squid mixed with their salted egg, such a beautiful harmony in your mouth.

The number of stalls they have inside are huge. They have tons of stalls for you to select from, noodles, rice, bread, you name it they have it. They also for a section for Malay owners to sell their food which include nasi lemak, nasi kukus and others. During the night, they even got steamboat for you to enjoy. With so much of selection, bring your friends and family to grab your lunch or dinner or even both!

Ruby Restaurant in Pudu is currently helmed by the fourth generations of the owner’s family. Their desserts are handmade from scratch which brings back the nostalgic taste from old times Over here you can find traditional Chinese desserts such as peanut paste, cha wu (peanuts and black sesame mix), stead egg custard and so on. If you aren’t pleased with the dessert, you probably don’t even need to pay for it as they have a bold statement at the signboard that says “If it’s not good, no need to pay”.

Pudu has many supper spots, but if you like Hokkie Mee, Tong Lian Kee is one place you should check out. The owner has been preparing his hokkien mee using charcoal since they started and still insist on using it because it gives the noodles the charred taste. His hokkien mee usually comes with huge amount of lard, pork liver, prawns and cabbage which gives the hokkien mee different texture every bites.

20. Kun Kee Chicken Porridge

The famous Kun Kee Chicken Porridge is located in front of RHB Bank in Pudu. They have been serving their signature porridge 30 years ago. They have up to 8 different choices of porridge for you to choose from and there are also different sides for you to order. Their must-try will definitely be their chicken porridge, it is so smooth and flavourful which can be eaten by its own without adding any other ingredients.
